Adakah MACC dirasuah? Kes Politik Wang di Mahkamah Temerloh...

Money politics case in Temerloh...kes Politik wang di Temerloh

Umno supreme council member Norza Zakaria was charged this morning in Temerloh magistrate's court in Pahang for alleged involvement in money politics.

He claimed trial to two charges of offering bribes to party delegates to vote for him for the supreme council post in the coming party polls later this month.

Norza, represented by Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, was released on a RM10,000 bail in one surety.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's head of prosecution Abdul Razak Musa led the prosecution.

Magistrate Ida Rahayu Sharif fixed April 22 to mention the case.

norza zakaria macc 130309Norza, 43, is alleged to have committed the offences on Jan 20, 2009 at 6.30pm at No 38, Pinggiran Tasik, Taman Bandar Temerloh, in Temerloh.

He is charged with corruptly giving Khadri Musa RM1,500 through Halimi Kamaruzzaman to be distributed to party delegates as inducement to vote for him

Norza is also charged with corruptly giving RM1,900 to Mohammad Anuar Yunus, also through Halimi Kamaruzzaman, for the same purpose.

The charges are under Section 16 (b)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 (Act 694) and punishable under Section 24 of the same Act.

Halimi was also charged under the same Act with bribing Khadri and Mohammad Anuar on behalf of Norza. He claimed trial and was released on a RM10,000 bail.

Both Norza and Halimi can be jailed for up to 20 years and fined not less than five times the amount of the bribe, whichever is higher.

Aide to face another charge?

Norza was arrested in January and released on bail pending investigations.

Prior to this, MACC had rounded up 12 party division leaders for allegedly dabbling in money politics. The commission had also queried Norza for more than eight hours in Temerloh.

Norza is the Federal Territory Umno Youth chief. He was a former political secretary to Second Finance Minister Nor Mohamed Yaacop.

He is also a close associate of Umno Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin and considered to be a member of the prime minister's inner circle.

Norza has never commented on the probe on him but had said that he was assisting MACC in their investigations.

This would be the first big catch of the MACC in its ongoing probe into money politics in Umno.

Halimi, who is a Maran Umno division committee member, had previsouly lodged a police report alleging that he had been tortured by MACC officers to implicate Norza of practicing money politics.

On Jan 28, Halimi Kamaruzzaman, 46, claimed that he was assaulted during his four-day remand in Kuantan.

According to him, MACC officers wanted him to confess that Norza was involved in money politics.

It is learnt that he will be charged soon for lodging a false report.

Leaving it to the delegates

Talking to reporters later, Norza said he will not be relinquishing his supreme council post as a result of facing the corruption charges today.

Instead, he said, he would be contesting to retain the post in the coming party polls, adding that he would be leaving his fate to be determined by party delegates.

A teary-eyed Norza also said that he was disappointed with the charges preferred against him. He said that he had contributed a lot to the party.

The emotional Norza, who had to be pacified by his supporters, also said that he would adhere to whatever outcome of the case.

Norza arrived to the court in the morning accompanied by bodyguards and some 30 supporters. - Malaysiakini, 13/3/2009, Money politics: Umno's Norza charged

Saw the Giant Squirrel in Kampung Lubuk Layang - Ratufa bicolor

In my Kampung Lubuk Layang, just a couple of weeks ago, I spotted a black giant squirrel...

Photographed at Gunung Pulai, Johor, Peninsular Malaysia.

Order : RODENTIA
Family : Sciuridae
Species : Ratufa bicolor

Head-Body Length : Up to 40 cm
Tail Length : Up to 50 cm
Weight : Up to 1.5 kg ?

The beautiful Black Giant Squirrel is one of the largest squirrels in the world. It inhabits tall primary forest and generally remains high in the canopy, but at times may be found at lower levels when feeding. It is largely solitary in habits and extremely shy, rarely coming to ground. It can confidently make huge leaps from branch to branch in the high canopy.

Orange-chested form from Pulau Penang, Peninsular Malaysia, showing typical feeding posture.
Photo thanks to M.A. Muin ©

Its upperparts and tail are jet black, but the cheeks, chest, front of the forelimbs and underparts are cream or orange. The tail is long and dorso-ventrally flattened.

Fruits and seeds make up its diet, supplemented by occasional insects and sometimes birds eggs. It builds a large, spherical nest of leaves and twigs.

The species once ranged extensively from Nepal and Assam through Burma, Indochina and Thailand to Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java and Bali. Its numbers have declined with the large-scale clearance of primary forest. It is absent from Singapore.

Saya ingin menyatakan bahawa

Jenderak Seladang Sanctuary (25km from Temerloh)

Jenderak Seladang Sanctuary

The Malaysian Seladang at Jenderak - Bigger than the American bison.

LOCATION :
The park is located 25km from Temerloh town.
OPENING HOURS :
Mondays to Fridays 8.15am to 4.30pm
GETTING THERE :
By Road : From Kuala Lumpur take the Karak Highway to Temerloh. Exit at the Temerloh toll exit, turn right and follow the road directions to Kuala Krau
The Seladang (bos gaurus hubbaki) captive-breeding centre in Jenderak is a sanctuary for the protection of the species. Occupying 20 hectares of land, the centre comprises 27 animal enclosures and paddocks. The Seladang is Malaysia's second largest mammal after the elephant. It has been confirmed by wildlife experts from the US and Europe to be bigger than the American bison, with the largest of the species and the average weight of a large bull about one tonne. Shy and sociable by nature, the Seladang used to roam freely in its rainforest habitat where it grazed uninhibited in the lowland river valleys. Nocturnal by habit, herds of up to 30 animals move in fixed territories. During the day when it is hot the Seladang would take refuge in the jungle and only venture out to graze after dark. At Jenderak, the Seladang is fed natural vegetation, gathered from surrounding forest while the sambar deer grazes on paddock grasses. Both the Seladang and sambar deer are given 'salt licks' and mineral pellets to supplement their diet.

On the edge of the 55,000hectare grounds of the Krau Forest Reserve(Pahang) lies a little plot of land where much is being done to ensure that the dwindling population of the Seladang and Sambar deer in the Peninsular get a fair stab at the survival game.

What is a Seladang?

The seladang or gaur or wild ox is the second largest land mammal found in Malaysia after the elephant. To locals, it is the most formidable animal in the jungle. Even tigers fear them and would always stay clear away from the beast unless they have calves with them. Hungry tigers would often attempt to steal a calf or two from the watchful herd, putting themselves open to a great possibility of being gored by the powerful bull if escape was unsuccessful. It is estimated that there are only 350 to 500 individuals left in Peninsular Malaysia. The seladang has been classified under the wildlife protection act 1972 as a vulnerable species and without arresting the many problems pertinent to the survival of the species, the Seladang's days are definitely numbered. Their distribution ranges from India, Indo-China, and from there down to Peninsular Malaysia. They, like the tigers, are not found in Borneo. Perhaps when Borneo broke off from the main mass of land, these creatures had not transmigrated that far south and hence were left behind.

Seladangs generally live in herds of about 30 individuals and are creatures of habit, just like the rhinos. They live in fixed territories. During the day, the herd retreats into the safety of the forest cover to rest and come out during the night, moving into open areas in the forest and river valleys to feed on the tall grass, herbs, climbers, shrubs and other tender grass or shoots that they can find. With such scheduled routines, the poachers have an easy time locating them. Although the bull may put up a good fight but not much can be done against firepower.
